So Edinburgh Fringe has started, and my friends are tormenting me with photos and updates on Facebook. So, in addition to purposefully not liking any of their updates out of jealous spite, I thought I’d write you a little list of shows you should go and see. Tell them I said hi.
Celia Pacquola – Let Me Know How It All Works Out
I saw the very first trial of this show before MICF this year, and even without a beginning or an end it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. The start and the end must have been good too, because she was nominated for the Barry award. Go see her show and tell her I said hello.
Demi Lardner – Birds With Human Lips
Demi is a totally rad little weirdo. This is her first solo show. I haven’t seen it, but I’ve seen enough of her to know it’s going to be excellent. Go see her show and give her a high five from me.
Ryan Coffey – Live and Loud
To the best of my knowledge, there is noone else performing comedy like Ryan Coffey. I’m starting to suspect he might be a genius. He got a haircut today. Go see his show and let me know if his haircut is shit.
Josh Ladgrove is a truly beautiful human being, and in this show you get to hurl abuse at him. If you want. He first performed Come Heckle Christ at the Imperial during Melbourne Fringe last year and it was bloody brilliant. Go see his show and let me know what the best heckles were.
Justin Hamilton – Johnny Loves Mary Forever 1994
I’ve talked about this show before. It’s clever, funny and thoughtful just like Justin himself. I’ve just read his blog post about opening night and it sounds like he’s up for a cracking run. Go see his show, and tell him to bring me back some snacks.
Alasdair Tremblay-Birchall – Success Arms
Alasdair and I once spent an evening taking selfies with as many different objects as we could find in a warehouse and for some reason it was the funniest thing ever. Then we wrestled with Andy Matthews who nearly destroyed us both. Go see his show, and take a selfie with him.
Lisa-Skye – Bunny and Mad Dog Get High
Lisa-Skye is a brilliant storyteller and all round loveable weirdo. She’s rad. She’s just rad. Go see her show and tell her I like her makeup.
Rhys Nicholson – Eurgh
Rhys Nicks is a very gifted comic and also has great hair. He did one of the best 5 minute spots I’ve ever seen this year during a showcase I ran for MICF, 5 For 5 At 5. Go see his show, and buy some of his awesome merch.
These guys are all excellent. Go see their shows as my representative please. Don’t forget to report back.
