My ten year school reunion is looming and there’s never a better time to reevaluate your life than just before you are going to have to justify it to strange folk you haven’t seen in a decade.

As an adult, am I expected to be nice to people who were horrible to me at school or am I allowed to regress for this, the special-est of special evenings? It better be an evening. They better not decide on some terrible beach picnic with no booze. Imagine a dry school reunion! Such a ridiculous concept I can’t even believe the thought tottered through my little mind. I’m sure even staunch non-drinking religos have a “get out of sobriety free” card that is reserved for the school reunion.

I wonder if my oldest friend would be interested in dressing up as Romy and Michelle for the occasion. There is of course the very real threat that all my old school chums haven’t followed Lisa Kudrows film career as closely as I have, and therefore the reference would be lost and they may, it’s possible, assume we dress like that all the time.

I definitely will be making up elaborate and flowery lies about having invented something ridiculous and highly improbable. Also considering drinking a bottle of Sapphire before showing up and making a scene. Maybe I should wear the dress I wore to the formal? Maybe I should start praying that one of my semi-famous friends gets actual real famous and will come along as my date, thus putting to shame all those people who married their highschool sweethearts who then in turn ended up being drug dealers and used car salesmen. On par, those two occupations.

Highschool reunions are essentially reliving a terrible and tramatic experience and having to pretend it was awesome. I wonder if plane crash survivors or people who had their tiddlywinks touched up by priests as children get together to have a couple of pints, a few curling sandwich triangles and a bit of a reminisce about the “good old days”.

I’m still considering potential outrageous behaviour and very open to suggestion, as always.
